Development of Essential Quality Indices for Continuous Improvement

Abstract


Quality is rapidly becoming one of the most differentiating factors among different products and services. Strives for quality and continuous improvement are reshaping all fields of life. One of the key elements for success, of these strives, is having the right quality indicators. In this presentation, an approach for the development of valid and reliable quality indices is introduced. To examine the validity of this approach, in depth discussion for the following essential topics will be conducted:

1. Quality domains and their interactions

2. Quality dimensions

3. Quality indices types and classifications

4. Basic elements for developing a quality index

5. Utilization of quality indices for continuous improvement

Finally, some case studies and results will be presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach in achieving quality goals and continuous improvement.

Speaker Bio


Dr. Mohamed El-Sayed has over thirty years of teaching experience and over twenty five years of automotive experience. Dr. El-Sayed was the Quality/Reliability/Durability (QRD) Subject Matter Expert and Integration lead on several General Motors' vehicles, platforms, and architectures. He has several awards from GM related to vehicle development and validation in the area of Quality /Reliability/Durability. Dr. El-Sayed has also worked as the chief engineer for Joalto Design developing advanced automotive components and safety subsystems. Currently, Dr. El-Sayed is the editor for the SAE Journal of Materials and Manufacturing and the Lean/Six Sigma activity chair.
