Abstract
Lean Six Sigma for the Healthcare Practice
This book is for those in healthcare practices whose customers/payers may be encouraging
or requiring them to use Lean Six Sigma in the workplace, or to simply improve the way
healthcare is being provided. The book is intended to be a basic, easy-to-read, quick and
handy reference to the process improvement topics that are so important in healthcare. The
first seven sections of the book cover the basics of Lean Six Sigma ("What is Lean Six Sigma?"
through a "Lean Six Sigma Road Map for the Practice") and how it can be applied and implemented in the Practice. The remainder of the pocket guide gives a brief description of the various tools and methodologies used in Lean Six Sigma. Each discussion has purposefully been kept short and simple to allow for basic understanding. Also included are tips of how or when to use the tool.Rod will discuss how Michigan is taking a lead in the county of transitioning traditional manufacturing quality professionals into the Healthcare profession.

Roderick A. Munro has extensive national and international expertise in Automotive, Aerospace, Healthcare and all levels of supplier Quality Assurance, Quality Control and Continual Improvement programs. Over 30 years experience in the service sector and manufacturing industries (including office operations, training, metals, plastics, stampings, and automotive: body interiors and exterior, electrical, Powertrain and more) using business improvement techniques on the shop floor and front offices/practices with a wide breadth of industries across North America, Europe and Asia and, several thousand production, non-production and transportation Tier-1 suppliers in quality management systems (QMS). Rod was in the forefront of the leading automotive supplier development processes in the Ford Supplier Quality Improvement Initiative; Team Chair for the development of the AIAG APQP Reference Manual and development of professional certifications; supplier development activities and initiatives; team leadership and problem solving; statistical analysis; innovative cost cutting and cost avoidance; Lean Manufacturing techniques; Process Mapping; Productivity Improvements; Supply Chain Management; PPAP Reviews; FMEA’s; SPC and MSA Studies; SSBB, and Auditing for the ISO 9001 and ISO/TS 16949 compliance. Rod has developed an exceptional knowledge of the continual improvement process using numerous quality, lean and six sigma tools and led and coached diverse teams to improve the bottom line of businesses. |
